Agency Visit: The Cocktail

One of the agencies we visited in Madrid was The Cocktail. This company works with a few names we know and love such as, Amazon and HBO. While we were there we go to see some exclusive content and apps that they were working on. But at the end of our visit we asked for some tips that would benefit college students looking for jobs in this field. I want to share what I learned to help other aspiring PR professionals.

If you need a lot of time to do something you are out of the game.

Everything today moves at such a fast pace and things are constantly changing. If you take too much time to think about what you need to do, your opportunity will pass. Especially in the PR world, the faster you respond the better. You just need to put whatever project you are doing out on the market quick!

If you are not a master, be a learner.

I believe there is always room for improvement. You need to constantly build your skills and show growth in your work. If you aren’t growing with every pitch, press release, or campaign you aren’t trying hard enough. There is always something new to learn.

Fun fact: This company pays their employees based on improvement.

It’s all about the attitude.

You can be equally qualified with several other applicants, but if you don’t have the attitude you will not get the job. Most agencies are looking for people that fit with the company, but if you don’t have the right attitude they would rather hire someone who does. Keko, the big boss man of The Cocktail, stated he would rather hire someone who is under qualified with the right mindset, than hire someone who thinks they are better than most in the company. Great attitude and a great personality can get you a long way.
